About Kristi Lee
Creator, Narrator, Executive Producer
Kristi Lee created Canadian True Crime as a personal creative passion project at the end of 2016. She remains the primary writer, researcher, narrator and sound designer for the podcast.
There’s a reason for her unusual accent: Kristi has lived in four different countries. She was born and raised in New Zealand, spent time in the UK as a young teenager, and finished high school in Australia. In 2009, she and her husband relocated to Canada, where they’re now proud citizens.
When Kristi started Canadian True Crime as a hobby, she was working full-time in marketing communications in Toronto’s financial district. She holds a business degree from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia, but has no formal training or qualifications in criminology—just a deep curiosity and an eye for detail. She approaches each case not as an expert, but as a curious outsider, eager to understand the country she now calls home and the inner workings of the justice system through the lens of the open court principle.
Surprised when the podcast quickly found an audience, Kristi juggled it with her job for several years, working on episodes at night after her kids were in bed. In early 2020 she gave up her 20-year career to work full-time on the podcast.
She lives in the Greater Toronto Area with her husband, two kids and two golden retrievers. She prefers to avoid the spotlight wherever possible.
